The Heart of the Farm: Our Kitchen Remodel Part I

|

Save for Later!

When we moved to the farm in 2022, we knew we wanted a kitchen that truly felt like ours. After three years of living here, a clear vision for our kitchen remodel took shape—one that reflects the rhythms of our daily life. This space was designed to feel both beautiful and deeply functional. Ephraim and I worked on the design together for about 6 months before we ever made any physical changes.

Major Changes to the Kitchen Design

The biggest changes to the kitchen were:

The Forno Galiano Oven

This seems to be everyone’s favorite part of the kitchen, which I admit is also my favorite. It is a Forno Galiano 36″ French Door Freestanding Range with 5 Radiant Elements Ceramic Glass Cooktop. It’s a convection oven with an air fryer kit. Shockingly it was not that expensive compared to other styles we looked at. After using it now for a few months, I am so glad we went with the french door style. My only change would have been to get the model that has smoother pullout mechanisms for the inside racks. But other than that I am so happy with it!

For our backsplash, stay tuned for part II! I am so thrilled to be getting a pot filler! Also, we looked through literally hundreds of tiles, and finally landed on making my own kitchen backsplash tiles. It was a very fun and creative project, and I can’t wait give you a big reveal for that as well once we install them.

Kitchen Island Details

For our kitchen island, Ephraim re-used some of our old cabinetry and gave it some new paint. He thoughtfully added little details like this cutting board nook, along with other surprises coming up in future blog posts. We decided on butcher block that he stained a deep chestnut color. Our antique knobs and pullout handles were both from amazon, and they matched the sink’s faucet perfectly. The antique bars and towel holders we used were also from amazon and have a beautiful blue and gold detailing on them.

Our antique knobs and pullout handles worked well with both the dark stained wood and white painted wood cabinets. The antique bars and towel holders bring a sense of old world charm to the kitchen as well.

The Sink

The faucet for the sink is a beautiful antique champagne gold faucet, including a very cool sprayer mechanism that I haven’t ever seen on any other faucets! The sink itself is a 33″ workspace style under mount sink (which can also be used as over mount). It includes a wood cutting board, drying rack, and strainer basket. We are still finishing the window trim, so we will keep you posted on part II for that!

Our countertops are Dekton, cut and installed by Mainland Stoneworks in Kernersville, NC. After exploring options like quartz and marble, we landed on Dekton for its exceptional durability, heat resistance, and ability to withstand everyday wear with minimal upkeep.

The LED light strips under the shelves add another dynamic lighting layer, brighten the workspace and reduce shadows when working.

The Tea Nook

We love our coffee and tea. This is probably the most used part of our whole kitchen!

I am so proud of Ephraim for doing this all himself. It’s a work of art in addition to its functionality. Here’s to hosting!
